Arnold Art Gallery Features Work by Marsha Mefferd During July
Wednesday, July 3, 2013 • Posted July 3, 2013

Marsha Mefferd’s abstract paintings and carved gourds will be featured at the Arnold Art Gallery in July. In keeping with the focus of the Gallery, Ms. Mefferd is an emerging Texas artist. Currently living in Mountain Home, Texas, she received degrees from the University of Houston and Texas Tech University.

The artist taught art for twenty-five years in Texas public schools, the last eighteen being in Klein ISD just north of Houston where she was the Fine Art Department Chairperson for the last twelve years. She says “teaching allowed me to have freedom during summers to take art classes - often in Junction, Texas where Texas Tech has a campus and summer program for artists. Spending my summers in Junction making art is when I fell in love with the Hill Country.”

Mefferd has become an active leader and participant in the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center, Kerrville Art Club and the Hill Country Arts Foundation with numerous exhibitions of her paintings and gourds throughout the area. She has become renown especially for her vivid abstractions made through a unique process that alternates between concealment and revelation that she will describe during the Opening of the Exhibit Friday July 5, 5:00 - 7:00 which h is a come and go event with refreshments.

As an artist, Mefferd thinks “to stay current and fresh, we have to push the boundaries, whatever they are, and break free from existing trends and endeavors. I believe that this is the only way to grow, as an artist and as an individual.”

According to Cathie Tyler, the Arnold Art Gallery Exhibition Curator, “both Marsha’s paintings and gourds are always surprisingly alive and exciting, suggesting exotic earth forms. The lively shapes and lines present upbeat rhythms while vivid colors exude additional levels of vibrations. A viewer cannot keep from visually dancing.”

Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the gallery to see the unique exhibits of art. The purpose of the Gallery is to bring different perspectives in the visual arts to the Mason Community and viewers who may not be shoppers are always welcome.

The Arnold Art Gallery is located across the street from the Mason, Texas Courthouse at 118 McKavett and is open from 9:00 to 5:00, Monday through Saturday. For more information, contact Joyce Arnold, 325-347-6272 or joymarnold@verizon.net.
