Annie Helen Leifeste Olsen died June 30, 2013.
She was born June 10, 1916, in Katemcy and lived in Mason until the 9th grade when the family moved to Florence, TX. She graduated from Florence High School. She lived throughout the US and traveled the world.
She was born to Ruby Elvadora (Brockman) and Robert August Leifeste. She led a remarkable life and was loved by many. She served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945, repairing Norden Bombsights at Davis–Monthan Air Force Base. She moved to San Antonio in 1951 and raised her children and took care of her parents until their deaths.
She became the first female graduate of the Machinist Training Program and retired as an Airplane Machinist from Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio in 1985 and returned to Mason to care for her brother. She remained until she joined her daughter, Jan, in Fort Worth in 2008.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and The Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was preceded by her sister, Rachel F. Kroh and brother, Oliver A. Leifeste.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Odyssey Hospice.
She is survived by her two daughters: Karen Sue-Ann Lebeter (Ed) and Janice Gail Olsen (James E. Edwards); grandsons Eric Porras (Kelly) and Jared Lebeter.; and nieces and nephews. A special thanks to her niece, Helen E. Kroh (John Keller).
