July Music under Stars at Night! Shade, Wine and Song
Wednesday, July 17, 2013 • Posted July 17, 2013

The Third Thursday of each month is a special treat for the folk of Mason Texas! At Sandstone Cellars Winery where the pecans arch over the grounds and great wine abounds, Texas Songwriters in the Round take up residence each month and showcase Texas songwriters. This is a tradition that has been ongoing since 1999. Mason is a perfect place for arts, music and wine, so bring your family, friends and fun to the front yard of the winery.

The shows start each month at 7 PM with seating beginning around 6PM while old time bluegrass wafts across the air. Each month there is a opening set of member songwriters followed by the special guest and featured artist. In July TSR is presenting Bob Simpson of San Angelo Texas:

Bob Simpson is a troubadour of the Americana kind. Pulling influences from the root of American music and making up his own tales of love, loss, and life with earthy, organic grandeur and undertones of ghosts that haunt and trains that roll. Singer-songwriters are a dime a dozen. Bob Simpson is worth a lot more. The 33-year old West Texas native has been writing and performing since he was a teenager but it wasn’t until the release of his 2008 self-titled debut that he came into his own.

After touring, three #1 spots on the Austin 360 charts, a #1 internet radio single and two songs on the soundtrack to the independent film Dead In Love, Simpson continued to write and perform. Taking a soul searching break, Bob came back to music with a better sense of vision and purpose.

In 2013, he’ll be releasing his second album, Odd Man Out, but Bob is taking on more than just music. He is in the process of writing a book of short stories and poems as well as dabbling in abstract art. He now resides in Houston, TX. Bob has since shared the stage with some current Texas greats such as Buxton, Nicolette Good, Steve Helms, Mando Sanez, K. Phillips and the Concho Pearls, Matt Harlan, Nick Verzosa, Rob Baird, Dub Miller, Josh Grider, and Drew Kennedy.

After the star performance there is always a jam and open mic! The shows are free but a suggested donation is $5 for the star! this covers their expenses.

All shows raise awareness about Chemo Sabe the music outreach to MD Anderson that the songwriters support. Every tee shirt sold helps fund the trip to Houston in the fall.
