Local singer Star Longoria will be the first entertainer to perform at the Odeon Theater surrounded by the new stage curtains installed last week.
The Odeon Preservation Association (OPA) took this latest step to bring the Odeon closer to being a top notch multipurpose performing arts and movie theater. The curtains provide masking for the new movie screen and may be pulled to center stage to cover the backstage area during live performances. Side curtains offer flexibility for various kinds of performances.
Funds for the new curtains were raised during the last fundraising effort for the state of the art digital projector and sound system. Spider Johnson, OPA president, said that the association is currently working with a grant writer to obtain funds from foundations to complete the long term goals set by the OPA when they formed the association to preserve the old theater.
Those plans call for new seating, new stage lighting, adding dressing rooms and workshop area, and restoring the balcony. He also encourages everyone to come to the Odeon to support our local entertainer, support the arts in Mason, support the Odeon Theater, and to come and see the new addition to the stage.
