The Johnson family came to Mason to watch their son Brady play in the Dr Pepper Tennis Tournament. Staying at THE COVERED WAGON Guesthouse they quickly heard about THE PAINTED TREE STUDIO on the premises and asked about a class. On Sunday morning before leaving Mason, they gathered for their very first ‘family’ painting experience.
The COURT/canvas was only 16x24 inches and the participants were all WILD CARDS, having little to no experience. Nerves and anxiety filled the room as positions were taken, sitting in front of a blank canvas, paints, & brushes…for all materials are provided. The start showed ALL COURT…displays of a composite of all styles. BASELINE (defined area), TRANSITION (blending colors), SERVE (re-load paint on brush), and later VOLLEY (painting with the music). As Coach Bridget guided & encouraged each player, she witnessed HACKER strokes which were more accidental than intentional. HAIL MARYS, JUNT BALL….having slow response to the instructions.
At the CHANGE OVER the paintings are just starting to take form and there is question if there is enough time to pull this canvas together into some sort of likable painting. Each player received a BUY which automatically advanced them to the next round and always without facing an opponent. The classes at THE PAINTED TREE STUDIO are non-competitive. We are here to have fun, enjoy others company and learn about Art….but mostly to have fun. As each player relaxed, enjoyed themselves and being with other family members, Coach Bridget could see CARVES….the brush hitting the canvas with a combination of sidespin, under spin and with a stronger confidence behind each stroke.
It was almost the end of the two hours and close to lunch, but there was no mention of DOUBLE BAGELS or even single ones. The players executed an awesome DROP SHOT during the last part of play of lightly splattering paint across their COURT canvas, utilizing paint on a toothbrush, sorry, no GUT was available.
The final was a GRAND SLAM for all! A LOVE GAME for the Johnson family from Midland.
