Live pari-mutuel horse racing returns to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11.
Also taking place that weekend in the Show Barn at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds will be three livestock shows.
For the races, the gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m. both days.
Admission to the grounds is $5 for adults, $3 for children six to 15 and free for children under six. Box seats are available for $9 each.
Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the weekend is part of the 2013 summer season at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.

The Gillespie County Fair Grounds is located approximately two miles south of downtown Fredericksburg on Texas Highway 16 South.
Quarter horses and thoroughbreds will again be featured in the live pari-mutuel races at the five-eighths mile oval at the Class III track on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11.
Post time is 1 p.m.
Highlighting the live racing program on Saturday, Aug. 10, will be trials for the 350-yard GCFA Maiden Futurity and the GCFA Maiden Classic. The finals for both of those races will be run on Aug. 24.
On Sunday, the 330-yard GCFA 79 and Under Allowance will be run. The top 10 qualifiers for the race, which has a purse of $28,900, were determined during the Texas Fest Race Meet.
Trials will be run on Sunday for the 350-yard Gillespie County Fair Futurity. The finals will be run on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Throughout the weekend, plenty of food and drink will be offered.
The 2013 racing season will conclude with two days of racing on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24-25, as part of the 125th Gillespie County Fair (Aug. 22-25).
Three livestock competitions are planned over the weekend in the Show Barn at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
The Meat Goat Futurity, sanctioned by the Junior Meat Goat Show Circuit, Inc., takes place on Saturday, Aug. 10. Showmanship starts at 9:15 a.m. followed by the show at 10 a.m.
Then on Sunday, the Gillespie County Race Day Classic Steer Show, sanctioned by the Texas Junior Livestock Association, starts at 9 a.m. and judging in the Lamb Futurity starts at 10 a.m.
The livestock shows are being held in conjunction with the upcoming 125th Gillespie County Fair.
125th Gillespie County Fair
Rounding out the 2013 summer schedule at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds will be the 125th Gillespie County Fair Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 22-25.
A variety of special events to commemorate the 125th celebration are planned along with the carnival and midway, outdoor concerts and dancing, parade, queen’s contest, live pari-mutuel horse racing, agricultural and home products displays and more.
Livestock judging continues during the fair.
Entertainment will also be featured. On Friday night, Aug. 23, Darrell McCall and Friends will perform on the outdoor pavilion. General admission on Aug. 23 is $5 before 6 p.m. and $10 after 6 p.m. School children and senior citizens are admitted free that day.
On Saturday, Aug. 24, the featured entertainers are John Anderson followed by Cody Johnson. Admission on Aug. 24 before 6 p.m. is $5 for adults (16 and up), $3 for youth ages six to 15 years and free for children under six. Box seats for the races are $9. After 6 p.m. on Aug. 24, admission is $15 for adults (16 and up), $3 for youth ages six to 15 years and free for children under six.
Pari-mutuel horse races will be run on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24-25, to conclude the 2013 racing season.
Professional Bull Riding
An evening of professional bull riding will be offered at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Fourth Annual Fredericksburg PBR.
Bull riding starts at 7:30 p.m.
Live music and a dance featuring the music of Zach Edwards will follow the bull riding.
Box seats are $40. General Admission is $20. Advance general admission tickets are $18. Children and Active Military/EMS tickets are $10.
