Please Fly "Old Glory" Aug. 14th & 15th
The American Legion
Wednesday, August 14, 2013 • Posted August 14, 2013

On August 14th & 15th, please fly “Old Glory” to honor the sacrifices made to secure the military victory over the Japanese forces fighting against America in WWII.

V-J Day marks the surrender of the Japanese forces, and is known by several names including Victory in the Pacific Day, V-P Day, and Victory over Japan Day.

The term has been applied to both of the days on which the initial announcement of Japan’s surrender was made – to the afternoon of August 15, 1945, in Japan, and, because of time zone differences, to August 14, 1945 (when it was announced in the United States and the rest of the Americas and Eastern Pacific Islands) – as well as to September 2, 1945, when the signing of the surrender document occurred on board the USS Missouri, officially ending World War II.
