Dear Gerry -

Every week I see "Pray For Rain" in the newspaper, and while it is proper for us to approach God reverently, asking Him to provide for our needs, we should begin each day by FIRST asking Him how we can serve Him. God created mankind to serve, obey and praise Him, first and foremost. God does not exist simply for us to ask Him for what we want or need. We should FIRST give God what He wants, and what is His rightful due.

That means we clean up our un-Godly thoughts, words and deeds to the best of our ability (only with the Spirit's help) to comply with HIS commands FIRST. If we don't know what God's standards and code of ethics are, the we READ AND REREAD THE BIBLE to find out. Jesus said, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matthew 6:33)

The only way we cand to that is to ask the Holy Spirit what needs fixing in our lives, and then DO IT, and STOP procrastinating and making excuses. Get rid of hard-heartedness and disobedience. Quit doing things that we're not supposed to do, and start doing the things we're supposed to do. If our needs aren't being met (including the need for abundant rain), then we're not seeking His kingdom FIRST.
