The Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is hosting this year’s Old Yeller Days celebration on Saturday, September 28, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the beautiful grounds of the historical courthouse in Mason. Events during the day will include a Dog Parade and Contest with prizes given in several different categories, donated by Reigning Cats & Dogs, owned by Lenore and Tommy Newsom.
Cavalry re-enactors, spinning and weaving demonstrations, soap making and many other displays will be emphasizing life in Mason County during frontier times in the 1870s, which was the setting for the book, “Old Yeller”. There will be Old Times Games for the children, food booths, vendors, music, and many other early frontier activities. At 2 p.m., Glenn Frankel, Pulitzer-Prize winner journalist, will be at the Odeon Theater speaking on his book, “The Searchers: The Making of an American Legend” with a showing of the film, “The Searchers” to follow at 3 p.m.
So put the date on your calendar, gather your friends and families and come join us in some old time fun and honor our native, Fred Gipson, author of our beloved “Old Yeller.”
