7th Grade Punchers Drop One
Wednesday, October 2, 2013 • Posted October 3, 2013

With San Saba not having enough players to field two teams, Coach Burns found a 7th grade game with Junction who was suffering from the same problem. Mason once again loaded the bus and hit the road.

Mason kicked off to start the game with an opening kickoff by Rudy Martinez that traveled to the endzone. Junction mounted a time consuming drive that stalled out inside Mason territory. Mason fumbled on the insueing punt giving the ball back to the Eagles inside Mason territory. Junction took over the ball and started a 35 yard drive that culminated in a score late in the first quarter. They converted the two point conversion and led 8-0.

On Mason’s first offensive play, we fumbled the ball back to the Eagles and once again Mason had a difficult time of stopping the good backs of Junction. With four minutes left in the half Mason finally got to run four offensive plays, but was denied a first and Junction took over on downs and ran out the clock.

The second half was much like the first as the offense could never get untracked. The defense played hard, but the big backs from Junction continued to pound their way through four to five yards at a time. Junction was able to add another score in the second half to take a 14-0 victory.

We were proud of how hard our kids played, we simply didn’t make big plays when we needed them on the offensive side. These guys keep working hard and as they grow, they will become a good solid team. We will play Reagan County Thursday at the Puncherdome at 5:00 followed by the 8th grade and JV.
