The Mason Study Club held their first meeting of the 2013-2014 year on Wednesday, September 23rd in the Stribling Room of the Mason Library. Judy Branch, President, started the meeting with a welcome and a prayer. Lunch was served by the Executive Board.

Carol Holmes, Vice President, introduced our guest speakers, Karen Welch and Carol Kothman, both from Second Chance Animal Rescue. Karen told some statistics about the animals rescued and read some stories from their “forever” families. She also spoke on programs that Second Chance offers such as fostering animals, Second Chance Scouts, and Companion Cats. Second Chance can also help “forever” families defray the initial costs of some veterinarian expenses. The Study Club wants to thank these two women for speaking at this meeting.

Judy Branch continued the meeting with thank you’s to Linda Kesler, outgoing President, Kay Hudler for opening up her home for the Study Club May picnic, and Kathy Jordan, outgoing yearbook chairman. Members were asked to sign up for a committee, dues were collected, and the schedule for meeting topics through May was distributed. Phyliss Estill was introduced as a new member. Gladys Kaderka was not able to attend this meeting but a request was made for members to sign up for Book Buddies.

Finally, Mason Study Club’s participation in the Old Yeller Days was discussed. The Study Club will sponsor an activity for the children called “Painted Rocks Rock”. Children will be able to pick a rock, paint it and take it home with them.

The meeting was adjourned.
