Wednesday, October 9, 2013 • Posted October 10, 2013

On Saturday, October 5th, a cool breeze blew, the sun shone, and tennis rackets swung. The Mason Junior High tennis program hosted an adult tennis tournament to help purchase a trophy case to showcase their successes throughout the years.

We had 16 adults and 10 juniors that graciously entered either men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, or singles.

In men’s doubles, the team of Bobby Halamicek and Cason Dudney took home 1st place. Second was the team of Ronald Stockbridge and James Schwertner, 3rd was Thom Canfield and John Gillespie, and consolation winners were Luke Gillespie and Slade Townsend.

Women’s doubles was won by the dynamic sister-in-law duo of Susan Grote and Dorothy Grote. Taking second place was the team of Kathy Schulze and Jasmine Martinez, 3rd place was the team of Tammi Pinter and Julie Gillespie, and consolation winners were Michelle Chapman and T.J.Schmidt.

The teams of Sherry Alexander and Becky Griffith, Kendra Klaerner and Lanie Schmidt, and Molly Schwertner and Sandra Duarte all participated as well.

Boys singles consisted of Cason Dudney, Slade Townsend, James Schwertner, and Luke Gillespie. They played a round robin but will finish their division at a later date as all of them had played either men’s doubles or were about to play mixed doubles.

Mixed doubles would conclude our beautiful day of tennis with the team of Jasmine Martinez and Ronald Stockbridge taking first place over the team of Lanie Schmidt and Coby Velez in an exciting tie-breaker. Third place was won by the team of Tammi Pinter and John Gillespie and consolation was won by Shannon Worrell and Thom Canfield.

Also competing in the mixed doubles division were Kendra Klaerner and Cason Dudney and Michelle Chapman and Jackson Chapman. Everyone played well!

I truly want to thank each and every one of these individuals for taking time out to play in the tournament and to those families and friends that were unable to attend but sent in personal donations, and most importantly, I would like to thank Coach Paul Smith for always answering my millions of questions and agreeing to my last minute ideas.

Until we meet again on the courts, the score is Love-All!
