Tim Jones speaks at Mason Study Club

The Mason Study Club met on Wednesday, October 13th in the Stribling Room at the Mason County Library. Carol Holmes introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Tim Jones, CEO of the Heart of Texas Medical Hospital in Brady, Texas, pictured above. Mr. Jones spoke about the construction of the facility and what that means to the community. For instance, the hospital can now offer annual mammograms to women. Mr. Jones also announced that the hospital carries the the rattlesnake anti-venom. He then passed out a list of the doctors who will treat patients at the facility. These doctors ran the gamut from internal medicine to surgery, obstetrics to orthopedics. (Call the hospital or visit their website for a list of doctors and their phone numbers.) Mr. Jones also talked about future plans for the hospital and the construciton of a possible assisted living facility nearby. The Study Club wants to thank Mr. Jones for his time, enthusiasm and information.

The speaker was followed by lunch served by Lynn Hedges, Rosemary Davis, Linda Kesler (pictured) and Jan Appleby.

President, Judy Branch, started the business portion of the meeting with thank you to the hostesses and to those who helped with Old Yeller Days. The new Study Club member, Johnny Heidelberg, was introduced. Welcome, Johnny!

Mary Carlman discussed the Club’s “Chili on the Square” fundraising event. This year it will be on Friday, November 15th. Mary had sign-up lists for making the chili and sides, drinks, etc. Call Mary if you haven’t signed up to help. This is a Club function and a fundraiser for the Library.

Other items discussed were the need for a Study Club liason to the library, a review of the Club Constitution and by-laws, and a separate mission statement. Alberta Birk gave an update on the social service committee. The Club voted to purchase a memorial brick from the Library for Ruth Dannheim whose daughters, Jennifer Brinlee and Deanna Handlin are Study Club members. Alberta will also contact Club members when they are home-bound for some reason.

A treasurer’s report was given with a reminder that 2013-2014 dues are due. Kathy Jordan handed out a few preliminary handbooks. Some additional information was needed before going to press.

The next meeting of the Mason Study Club will be on Wednesday, November 13th. This will be the Club’s ornament exchange.

The October meeting was adjourned.
