Mason County 4-H Teams Compete in Food Challenge
Wednesday, November 27, 2013 • Posted November 29, 2013

On November 21, two Mason County 4-H teams competed in the 2013 District 7 Food Challenge in Abilene, Texas. Teams were given certain cooking ingredients and allowed 40 minutes to prepare a dish from scratch and without any recipe. Upon completion of the entree, each team gave a brief presentation of what they had prepared. The teams were then interviewed by a panel of judges and asked multiple questions including nutritional analysis of the dish, cost per serving and preparation techniques that were used. This was the first time Mason 4-H has participated in this contest. Both teams did excellent, with the junior team of McKenna Palacios, Colby Brown, Larin Hoksbergen, Jay Alschwede and Ranger Schmidt placing 3rd in their division. The intermediate team consisting of Ty Hoksbergen, Jenna Johnson, Reagan Palacios, Caroline Lemke and Catherine Lemke placed 1st overall in their division. Congratulations to both teams for their success in this competition.
