"Down The Drain With Jane"
Wednesday, December 4, 2013 • Posted December 4, 2013

I had forgotten the joy of the “Turkey.” Yes, the Wish Bone, aka the Pulley Bone. I always like the piece of the chicken with the pulley bone in it. During the drought of the fifties, my folks raised rabbits. They told me that it was chicken when we had fried rabbit. Of course, I wanted the piece with the Pulley Bone in it. Daddy, would tell me, “I cut it up wrong.” However, when we did have chicken, there was always the Pulley Bone.

I wondered why it was also called the Pulley Bone, and it was explained to me that, you’d pull on it! Da, that was a no brainer, right? The one with the big end got their wish. Daddy was usually my partner in the pulling! Now, if you told your wish, it wouldn’t come true. Most likely Daddy’s wish was not to have to pulley any more, or maybe it was for a good rain. I’ll never know.

This Thanksgiving, I found a Pulley Bone. To tell you the truth, it was the highlight of this Thanksgiving. It was like a long lost treasure when I saw it. It brought back memories of the Pulley Boneless fried chicken, aka fried rabbit!

P.S. Had Z to do the Pulley Bone thing with me. He got the big end! So, his wish, what ever it was, will come true. I really think he cheated!!
