Mason Artisan Gallery is hosting a reception to honor Sue Kaan, the Gallery’s Artist of the Month. Friday, December 13, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wine and other refreshments will be offered to everyone, along with the opportunity to view Sue’s extraordinary paintings and other art works, including her popular painted antique bricks. These bricks, rescued from building deconstruction sites, depict everything from cherubs to cactus to portraits of Van Gogh.
Sue’s dad was an artist, and though she has taken lessons over the years, she is mostly self-taught. One of the most helpful teachers she ever had taught her more about learning to see than learning to paint. She continues to be fascinated by color, light and shadow. She now paints the Texas Hill Country plants and scenes that have captured her imagination.
Mason Artisan Gallery, part of a row of Sunday houses on Live Oak St., just north of the square, is a showcase for the work of local artists, jewelry makers, and imaginative craftsmen. If the weather kept you from enjoying the Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country Annual Show or the Mason Art Walk this past weekend, you have another chance to see the work of creative Mason artists at the Artisan Gallery. Come out for some Christmas cheer and enjoy the works of Mason’s own.
