Cora Nell Franklin

Cora Nell Franklin passed away on Monday, December 30, at the age of 83. Cora was born in Del Rio, Texas, on December 11, 1930, to Walter Looney and Ava Mae McGlasson Looney. She attended Crocier Tech High School in Dallas. Cora was a life-long Christian.

She met Billy Franklin at a church picnic and on October 29, 1948, they were married in Dallas. They were together for 62 years until his death in 2010. They lived in Dallas for much of their married life before settling in Mason after Billy retired. They enjoyed rock hunting together and it was their love of rock hunting that brought them to Mason. Cora and Billy also did missionary work together in Mexico. Cora loved to bowl and was in several bowling leagues in Dallas. She was an excellent cook and had a wonderful sense of humor. Cora loved her Church and doing volunteer work.

Cora is survived by her son George Franklin and Darlene Edmondson of Ft. Worth, two daughters Laurie Fulce and husband Ron of Mason and Kathy Scoggins of Nevada, Texas, six grandchildren: Crystal Hradecky and husband Buddy; Derrick Bird and wife Erin; Kevin Scoggins and wife Cindy, Amy Lorrance and husband Clay, Stephanie Tusing and husband Jason and Heather Scoggins and 12 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Lucian and Frances Franklin of Rockville, Maryland a niece, Cindy and a nephew Brian. Along with her husband, Cora was preceded in death by a sister Pauli brown and a son-in-law Tim Scoggins.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 3, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mason Church of Christ building. Mark Kirby led the service. Interment followed in the Gooch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were George Franklin, Ron Fulce, Jason Tusing, Corey Tusing, Dane Phillips and Nickie Nobles.
