Mason Elementary Leaders at Work Food Bank Service Project
Wednesday, January 29, 2014 • Posted January 29, 2014

In November a Prime Time group of fourth graders at Mason Elementary began reading The Family Under the Bridge about a homeless family in Paris. This book spurred the students to explore ways to help people in Mason. Pastor Cliff Krcha spoke to the class and explained the available services and needs of our Mason County Food Bank. After this discussion, the students decided to initiate a service project in December for Mason Elementary School. Students in PreK-4th grades were encouraged to bring food items for the Mason County Food Bank. This Prime Time group created flyers, set up boxes in each classroom, and assisted in taking the food to the Food Bank. On December 18th the students went on a field trip to the Food Bank to deliver food donations. While there, the students were assisted by Pastor Cliff Krcha, Sue Pledger, Melinda Baker, and Linda Laury in assembling boxes for distribution. One young man stated after experiencing this project, “Well, this was life changing!” We are excited to announce that students at Mason Elementary brought over 600 food items to be used at the Mason County Food Bank! Mason Elementary is a Leader in Me School that encourages students to use their leadership skills at home, school, and in our community.
