The Mason Garden Club met on January 21, 2014, at the Mason Library.
Linda Laury spoke about the different steps needed to start a community garden. Last year there were donations of fresh vegetables for the Food Bank clients, which were appreciated. The Food Bank also plans to have a Food Bank garden in the near future. There followed many questions and how we could be involved.
Mary Eckert gave a very informative presentation on “Herbs Grown for Medicinal Purposes.” Many of our ancestors in Mason County knew how to identify and use the herbs and plants growing in their pastures for their illnesses. Mary shared many books and resources about herbs with the group. There were 15 members and 15 guests attending the meeting.
The Mason Garden Club meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 2 pm, at the Mason Library. Our program for February 18th is “People, Pets & Plants” to be presented by Margaret Durst, owner of The Green House, here in Mason. If you are interested in gardening, there are many interesting programs throughout the year and you are welcome to come.
