Wednesday, February 5, 2014 • Posted February 5, 2014

Mason Junior High is so proud of our 7th and 8th grade Gifted & Talented students that competed in the Area 15 Robotics Inventions Contest in Robert Lee, Texas. We had ten students from four teams travel to compete in the Inventions Division of the Area 15 Robotics Competition. The goal of the Robotics Inventions division is to create and program a robot to do a specific job or task. The students gave a presentation to judges on their robot and were scored on research, construction design, program design, documentation and testing, and marketing.

Ella Canfield, Julie Mae Drazan, TR Kerr and Bode McMillan competed on the team “Misty, the Firefighter.” Misty can detect and put out fires. Misty and her team placed 3rd and will be competing in State!

Josh Fluhmann and Jenna Johnson competed on the team “Flower, the Amazing Folding Bot.” Flower is a laundry folding robot to help you in folding laundry.

Cason Dudney and Sarah Williams competed on the team “Casaraga, the Garden Tender.” Casaraga is designed to water your garden for you.

Victoria Baltierra and Zach Norman competed on the team “Cy, the Recycler.” Cy is designed to find aluminum cans and crush them for recycling.

Team members that were unable to attend the competition due to other commitments were Sydney Anderson, Grace Chapman, Kate Gillespie, Ryli Ruffin, Reagan Palacios, Bailey Taylor, Sloan Townsend, and Chet Weitz.

The state robotics competition will be later this spring. We will keep you updated on Misty’s success! Thank you for your continued support of the Mason Junior High Gifted & Talented Program.
