On January 21, residents of the entire town of Fredonia, and those living in the area, were surprised to learn they were being evacuated. The precautionary move was in response to a propane tanker that had overturned while turning around on the shoulder of Highway 71 at the Fredonia road. The driver got his tires too close to the edge of the road and the fully loaded tank slid off the embankment, then rolled over. Highway 71 was closed for most of the day while the truck was lifted upright and towed away. No one was injured in the incident.
