The Heart of Texas Country Music Association is pleased to present an afternoon of Gospel Music with the Legendary Chuck Wagon Gang on Sunday, February 9, at 3:00 PM at the Heart of Texas Events Center in Brady.
The Chuck Wagon Gand is one of the most prolific gospel groups, and long-running radio show, formed in 1935 by D.P. (Dad) Carter and son Jim (Ernest) and daughters Rose (Lola) and Anna (Effie). The “Gang” signed with Columbia Records and remained with them for 39 years. At one point they were Columbia’s number one selling group with excess of over 39 million in record sales.
The Chuck Wagon Gang has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Grand Ole Opry. The group has been elected to the Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian Institutes classic American recordings.
The group is celebrating 75 years in the gospel music industry with current members including Shaye Smith (granddaughter of Governor Jimmy and Anna Davis), Julie Hudson, Stan Hill, Jeremy Stephens and Joe Rotton.
“We are working on bringing some gospel music to the area as well as our country shows, “ MC Tracy Pitcox said. “We are very excited that the Chuck Wagon Gang added Brady onto their list of performances during this tour.”
