Since mid-January when the Mason County Commissioners' Court and the City of Mason Commission both gave their blessings to a plan by the Puncher Club to build a new field house, work has progressed rapidly.
Volunteers have already removed the old field house, and the Mason County Road Department has hauled away the building debris, as well as bringing in soil for the foundation of the new building. Actual construction will begin shortly.
In preparation to build the new field house at the Puncher Dome, Mason Puncher Club has taken out a $200,000 loan at Mason Bank. Mason Bank was generous enough to structure an unsecured loan as long as Puncher Club is able to provide 200 personal guarantees for $1,000 each. These $1,000 guarantees are not a donation and not a pledge that has to be paid when the loan matures. They are simply a guarantee that if Puncher Club were to ever default on the loan, the persons signing the guarantees could be responsible for up to $1,000 to pay the loan off. Puncher Club is already working on methods to repay the loan and feel we can have the loan paid off in the next two years. The existing field house had been inadequate for many years, and many visiting teams have opted to change clothes on their bus rather than use the building. Our own Punchers actually change clothes over in the Community Building rather than using the field house.
Since the new Puncher Club administration was voted in in August of 2013 (5 months), they have donated approximately $14,000 to Mason I.S.D. These donations include $5,260 for new gym pads, $1,350 to the Football Program for a new stereo system for the weight room, $400 each to the boy’s and girls’ Basketball Programs, Golf Programs, Track Programs, and Baseball and Softball Programs for a total of $3,200, $760 to film the football games, and another $3,382 for various other expenses incurred by Mason I.S.D. for athletics.
