Puncher Shootout Kicks Off Tennis Season
Wednesday, February 12, 2014 • Posted February 14, 2014

This Friday will begin the first of three weeks of high school tennis matches to be hosted by Mason.

The Puncher Shootout will again attract a solid field of tennis teams. The tournament will guarantee each player four quality matches. This year the schools that will be participating will be Abilene High, Fredericksburg, Junction, Kerrville, Marble Falls, Midland Christian, San Angelo Central, and Mason. The competition should be very good.

Mason got its first tournament in last Saturday in Fredericksburg. Most of the upper varsity players were held out of that tournament so we were able to use several of the lower varsity players and several JV players. We didn’t win a lot of matches, but had the opportunity to play tough schools and guarantee each player five prosets.

Play this week will two out of three sets using no-ad scoring. We will play two full rounds on Friday and hopefully get a third round of the consolation side played. Play will begin at 8:30am. Mason will still not be at full strength as several of our varsity players are still competing in basketball.

Several of our JV players will be playing in Fredericksburg again this Thursday in the Billie Invitational . Play there will also begin at 8:30 at the HEB Courts at the high school and at the Lady Bird Johnson Park courts.
