Mrs. Halamicek’s 4th and 5th grade science classes took a local educational field trip to Mason Greenstar last week. Mason Greenstar creates building materials for homes and buildings from recycled paper. Our local students have been collecting paper since October to donate in order to see the paper to block process. The kids were so excited to see their actual paper made into blocks! While at Mason Greenstar, Zach Rabon and Matt Hargrove showed the kids around the plant, explained the process of making the product, as well as showed them how far they have come in the last few years. Zach prides himself in his business being as “green” as possible. We saw how they collect and reuse water, how they are recycling paper, and how energy efficient all of their products are. The kids were blown away as they explained that their blocks also were FEMA-Certified to be used as a safety shelter, were fire resistant, as well as mold resistant! The students had a GREAT time learning about renewable energy and conservation! Thank you to Mason Greenstar for having both groups out! For more information, visit www.masongreenstar.com!
