Mason Youth Baseball & Softball Opening Day Festivities - Saturday, March 22, 2014
Wednesday, March 19, 2014 • Posted March 19, 2014

The 2014 Mason Youth Baseball Little League Board would like to cordially invite our baseball and softball loving community to our Opening Day festivities on March 22, 2014. Youth Baseball and Softball season is officially here!

Mason Youth Baseball is pleased to be back in Little League® and to help in celebrating the Diamond Anniversary of the organization this year. 1939 was a long time ago but that’s how far back the United States and Little League® baseball go – 75 years!

We will have approximately 210 Mason children participating in our baseball and softball programs this year. Please come out give the kids someone to wave and cheer to at 9:00am Saturday! The convoy will begin from the Mason Bottling Co., Inc. parking lot, through the square, out to the baseball fields to begin another year of our national pastime.

Following the parade we will have an Opening Ceremony to welcome players, parents, and the community. We will then have a special guest to throw out the first pitch!

Beginning at 11:00am we will have a fabulous pork barbeque plate available with all the trimmings. We will keep serving until we sell out! Do not worry though, our concession stand will open up and have lots of goodies as well.

We will have games scheduled all day long! From our Junior Ball players, on up to our 14 and Under players. We have guests coming from Comfort and Fredericksburg to join in the fun. Let’s show them what a wonderful baseball community we have here in Mason. By showing good sportsmanship and keeping our children at the center we can never go wrong!

Mason Youth Baseball would like to stress the importance of the many volunteers who donate their time each season whether to be a coach, a team mom, or work in the concession stand. We all realize that the Mason Baseball and Softball programs couldn’t happen without you.

Here is a simple poem for us all to keep in mind as the season begins:

He stands at the plate with his heart pounding fast. The bases are loaded, the die has been cast. Mom and Dad cannot help him, he stands all alone. A hit at this moment would send his team home. The ball meets the plate, he swings and he misses. There’s a groan from the crowd, with some boos and some hisses.

A thoughtless voice cries, “Strike out the bum.” Tears fill his eyes, the game’s no longer fun. So open up your heart and give him a break, for it’s moments like this, a man you can make. Please keep this in mind when you hear someone forget, he is just a little boy, and not a man yet.
