Puncher Baseball started district last Saturday, due to the game being postponed from Friday, with the first win of the season.

The Punchers went up 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning and kept that lead until the top of the 3rd when errors forced 3 opponent runs across. The score wouldn’t change until the bottom of the 6th when freshman catcher Riley Pape hits a hard to handle ground ball with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the bottom of the 6th to tie the ball game.

It wasn’t until extra innings that Luis Castillo hit a walk off single to score Jeffrey Williams to seal the win 4-3 in their district opener. Ryan Wartenbach was the starting pitcher for the Punchers. Miguel Castillo relieved him after the 3rd inning and finished the game. In 8 innings they gave up 8 hits, 3 runs, and only 3 walks. They totaled 14 strike outs with 12 of those coming from Miguel Castillo.

This week the Punchers play Ozona at home then go on the road Friday in Harper.

JV won big over Junction 17-5.
