The Odeon Theater kicked off their 2014 concert season with a sold out performance by country music star Kix Brooks. The concert, sponsored by Don Hewlett Chevrolet, was a fundraising event to help the Odeon Preservation Association (OPA) raise money for renovations at the old historic movie theater. Brooks has a connection with and loves Mason. So, he was eager to come to the aid of the association.
The OPA has lined up a stellar season beginning with a special performance by Ruby Jane at the Odeon Theater in Mason, Saturday, April 12 at 7:00 PM. Ruby Jane is a 19 year old fiddle prodigy turned singer/songwriter/national touring artist. When Ruby Jane was 9, she became the youngest person to ever be invited to play the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. At the age of 11, she won the Mississippi State Fiddle Championship and went on to win numerous contests all over the South. OPA president Spider Johnson says that to watch and listen to Ruby Jane is jaw dropping amazing. She’ll make you tap your toes clap your hands, grin ear to ear and shake your head in disbelief. She’ll leave you speechless during her performance and standing up and begging for more in the end. This is one you don’t want to miss, and there is nothing she can’t play.
During the recent South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Ruby Jane took the stage with Lady Gaga. She has opened for/toured with Willie Nelson, Blues Traveler, ZZ Top, Sheryl Crow, Drake Bell, Lyle Lovett, Local Natives, Big and Rich, and many more, as well as playing Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival with her own band. She now resides in Austin, TX and tours nationally.
Ruby Jane’s unique style blends folk, rock, jazz, and funk into an exciting and stunning amalgamation of sounds. Her latest CD, “Celebrity: Empire of Emptiness” was released in June 2012. Her new single and music video, “Ticket Out”, was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Mario Marchetti (Black Eyed Peas, JoJo, Jennifer Lopez, Pussycat Dolls, etc.) and was released Nov 7, 2013 as the first track on her upcoming 2014 album.
