The Mason Garden Club met on Tuesday, March 18th at 2 p.m. at The Green House with Jeff Durst giving a program on “Native Plants”. The Green House is an organic nursery and natural health store owned by Jeff and Margaret Durst located on San Antonio Street here in Mason. In addition to native plants, Jeff offers a great selection of vegetables, heirloom tomatoes, and a large selection of herbs. He gave an informative program on native plants and different selections of growing materials to use to help with gardening success.
The Mason Garden Club will have their third annual Spring Plant Sale, on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., in front of the Mason County Library. The Mason Garden Club will be selling both plants members have transplanted and commercial plants that are purchased wholesale. Several members have made soaps and lotions that will also be available for sale. The proceeds are used for the upkeep of the flowerbeds in front of the Library and around the Old Yeller Statue.
Mason Garden Club won the District V Award for the District V Membership Challenge, with having 9 new members between Sept. 1, 2013 and March 1, 2014.
For the April 15th meeting, The Mason Garden Club will go on trip to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and the Natural Gardener Nursery in Austin.
