Mason Junior High Tennis Begins Season
Wednesday, March 26, 2014 • Posted March 27, 2014

This past Friday and Saturday, Mason Junior High tennis began its season by hosting their team tournament. On Friday afternoon, Mason played Sonora while Copperas Cove played Faith Academy. We played extremely well and only lost a total of 8 games all afternoon. We had a young team playing for us on Friday since junior high track also had a meet but our players stepped up and played well. Those playing on Friday were Ethan Powell, T.R. Kerr, Cason Dudney, Corbin Norris, John Benefield, Leonel Blas, and Ty Ellebracht. Girls playing were Ryli Ruffin, Ella Canfield, Raegan Glentz, Kate Gillespie, Molly Schwertner, Sloan Townsend, and Bailey Taylor. After a close match, Faith Academy beat Copperas Cove and would face the Mason team in the semi-finals on Saturday morning.

The day began cloudy and a little cool with a slight chance of rain, but Mason was ready. While the Varsity team was preparing to head out and play for a 12th State Team Championship, the junior high kids were preparing to defend their title as well. Faith Academy is a Christian school out of Marble Falls but they have some kids who can play tennis. After the doubles came off, Mason had a commanding 7-0 lead. They never looked back. In the other semi-final match, Kerrville defeated Fredericksburg so it would be a Mason-Kerrville finals repeat from last year. Kerrville always has an excellent team and they did not disappoint this year. After doubles came off, Mason led 5-2. Singles usually worries us a little but our kids really played well and we only lost one singles match. The final score was 13-3. Mason Junior High was victorious once again. Mason players on Saturday were Ethan Powell, T.R. Kerr, Cason Dudney, Kason Silerio, Emanuel Martinez, Tyson Keller, Fernando Torres, and Bode McMillan, Ryli Ruffin, Ella Canfield, Raegan Glentz, Kate Gillespie, Sandra Duarte, Molly Schwertner, and Ruby Magnus. Thank you to all the parents, teachers, friends, and tennis fans that came out to support our junior high kids. We look forward to another great season and keeping the tennis tradition alive. This week the junior high team will have two duals. On Tuesday, March 25th Heritage from Fredericksburg will be in Mason and on Saturday, several of our kids will travel to Fredericksburg to play in a four team dual match with Fredericksburg, Boerne South, and Boerne North.
