Junior High Band Receives First Divisions
Wednesday, April 2, 2014 • Posted April 5, 2014

On March 25, the Mason Junior High Band went to Llano for UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest.

The band received a first division rating from each of the three judges in both areas, also known as a Sweepstakes! A first division is the best rating you can receive from a judge. For the Concert portion of the contest, the band had prepared three contrasting pieces to perform. For Sight Reading, the band is given music they have never seen before, they have 7 minutes to look over it before playing for the judging panel.

In both the concert and sight reading portions they received comments from the judges saying “Very nice performance. I enjoyed hearing you play. A good band! Nice sounds. Well prepared.” The band’s director, Molly Dye, said “This group of students has come such a long way this year. They have definitely exceeded all of my expectations and did a fantastic job in both concert and sight reading.

I am so proud of them!” The band will spend the rest of the year improving and preparing for the Spring Concert which will be on May 13th.
