My Favorite Comfort Foods
Wednesday, April 9, 2014 • Posted April 9, 2014

When the moon hits your eye like a bit pizza pie! That’s amore!!!

Every time I hear these words sung by Dean Martin, it reminds me of our time spent on the East coast in New Jersey. We lived in the tiny town of Fanwood, New Jersey, the train station was just a block from our house and the bus to New York City stopped on the corner of our street. And, Oh! Does it bring back memories of fabulous Italian food? Growing up in my family, we had spaghetti and lasagna but never in my wildest dreams did it taste or smell like the things that were going into my mouth from those charming Italian restaurants and the tiny whole-in –the –wall pizza places up on the East coast. Needless to say we became great lovers of Italian food. Hence, the third cooking class will be Italian comfort food. The class will be held at the Mason county Library in the Stribbling room on Friday, April 26, 2014. We will begin a hands-on cooking demonstration starting at 12 noon and ending a 1PM at which time we will taste our yummy recipes! Please call the Library at 325-347 - 5446 to register for the class. Class size will be limited to 10. Thanks to my New Jersey neighbor, Susan Citrano, whose delicious recipes we will prepare. And get this;

Susan’s mother (her parents emigrated from Italy to the US) still rises early every day to prepare her husband an Italian lunch.

Menu:

Manicotti and meatballs with red sauce – a real manicotti is made with a crepe not pasta!!!

Caprese salad – my favorite salad of all times complete with fresh tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella cheese, fresh basil with a balsamic reduction

Garlic bread – hot!! Do I need to say more!

Desserts: Nutella Gelato – chocolate and hazelnut flavored ice cream

Tortoni- the most fabulous ice cream treat made with Luxardo cherries and almonds.

O sole Mio

Sta’nfronte a te!!!!!
