Now that spring is in full swing (if you ignore the cold fronts) Texas Songwriters in the Round is preparing the next showcase at Sandstone Cellars Winery in Mason Texas. These showcases are every third Thursday from 6-10 in front of the wine bar.
This month the show is on April 17th featuring Steve Brooks, a favorite of TSR, since 1999, is not new to music and song. Cross two famous guys named Brooks - Garth and Mel - and you get Austin folksinger Steve Brooks. His Garth side co-wrote the Slaid Cleaves classic “One Good Year,” as well as songs recorded by Americana artists like Albert & Gage, The Flyin’ As, Danny Santos and Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe. His Mel side wrote a satirical song-a-week for Jim Hightower’s nationally-syndicated radio show, as well as appearing on “I’ve Got a Secret” as six-time World Pun Champion. More than 70 Americana stations spun his last album, “Chasing Grace,” produced by Chris Gage, and his followup, “Taking You Home,” is due for release Fall 2014. Writes Stave Magazine, “He is simply the most clever man you’ll hear with a guitar.” You can sample his songs at www.stevebrooks.net.
Texas songwriters are not only talented, but they donate their talents and time to Chemo Sabe, a 501c-3 music-based community service group. Their main yearly event is a trip to MD Anderson to perform at AIM@Melanoma for the Cure, which is is a race & fundraiser for research to fight cancer in downtown Houston, Tx at the complex. They also help with local events when called upon to provide music, facilities, equipment or archival recording.
Their goal is to raise $1000 for the trip in September and tees are sold at shows to raise travel funds.
Many sponsors support this group both local and international! See their Facebook page for more details.
This year marks TSR 15th anniversary of bringing original live music to the NW hill country.
