Be a Blood Hero!
Wednesday, April 16, 2014 • Posted April 18, 2014

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is sponsoring a blood drive to be held in the Stribling Room on Monday, April 21, from 2:00-6:00 P.M.

This drive is an opportunity for people to give back to the community by giving the gift of life. About 25% of all blood is transfused to save the lives of cancer patients! Donors may call United Blood Services at 800-756-0024 to schedule an appointment or go online to and enter sponsor code: masontx.

Each donor gets a T-shirt, entry in the drawing for a Square Plate gift card, free cholesterol check, and points in the Hero in Me Rewards Program. Appointments are encouraged and are going fast. Donors are asked to bring a photo ID and donor card every time they donate. First-time donors will receive a card with their blood type in the mail shortly after their first donation. A donor must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good general health to donate. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 must have a Minor Donor Permit, which can be found online at, signed by parent or guardian. Save time by completing the health history questionnaire online on the same calendar day as your donation. Go to, click on complete health history, answer all questions, print the fast track ticket, and bring it with you to the blood drive.

If no follow-up is required, your vitals are taken, then the actual donation. You may use the public access computers and print your ticket at the library if you wish. Don’t wait—call or go online today to make your appointment. Be a hero—donate!
