The Odeon Preservation Association is looking forward to hosting two 2014 Austin Music Award winners when the Warren Hood Band performs at the Odeon Theater in Mason Saturday May 10 at 7:00 PM. Yes, two for the price of one.
Warren Hood won this year’s award for Best Strings player. He has received the award three years in a row. Band member Emily Gimble won for Best Keyboard player and has won two years running.
Warren Hood began playing the fiddle at the age of eleven. He was selected as a guest soloist of the Austin Symphony while in high school and attended Berklee School of Music where he won the schools top honor--the String Achievement Award. The son of Texas music legend Champ Hood (Uncle Walt’s Band, Toni Price), Warren became recognized not only as a virtuosic fiddler, but also as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and singer. Now he heads one of the hottest roots bands to come out of Austin in years and will be headlining slots at Kerrville Folk and Bluegrass Fest, the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco and The Americana Music Festival in Chicago.
Emily Gimble, also raised in music, is the granddaughter of the legendary Texas Playboys’ and Grammy Award winning fiddler Johnny Gimble. While sounding a little bit like Norah Jones and Billy Holiday, Emily has a honky-tonk style, country rhythm, and jazzy voice. She has shared the stage with such greats as Ray Benson, Marcia Ball, Bobby Bare and Willie Nelson.
