Edward Castillo Avalos

Funeral services for Edward Castillo Avalos, Sr., age 55 of Rockdale were scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Deacon Gus Coelho with St. Joseph Catholic Church officiated. Visitation was 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Edward was born September 16, 1958, in Mason, Texas to Jesus and Guadalupe (Castillo) Avalos. On January 6, 1982, he and Joyce Ann Susan were married in San Saba. They have lived the past 20 years in Rockdale and Milam County.

Edward worked as a butcher at Southside Meat Market in Elgin for 13 years and the past 10 years he worked as a handy-man repairing washers and dryers. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and Bar-B-Queing for his family. Edward never met a stranger. The weekend could not get here fast enough so that he could spend time with his grandchildren.

Edward passed away Thursday morning, May 29, 2014, in the Seton Hospital in Round Rock surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Avalos.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Avalos of Rockdale; Son, Edward “Chivo” Avalos, Jr. and wife Marissa of Hutto; Daughter, Staci Avalos of Rockdale; His mother, Guadalupe Avalos of Mason; 8 step children, Sandra Rathke and husband Robert of Centerpoint, Billy Stifflemire of Rockdale, Ron Barcuch and wife Melissa of Rockdale, Taffenie Walton and husband John of Taylor, Linda Avalos and husband Joe of Brady, Thomas Barcuch of Austin, James Barcuch of Round Rock and Michael Barcuch of Round Rock; 4 brothers, Antonio Avalos, Rueben Avalos and Pat Avalos all of Mason and Joe Avalos of Brady; 2 sisters, Irene Marqueco and Josie Hernandez both of Mason. 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Fresenius Dyalis Clinic in Rockdale for their great care of Mr. Avalos.
