Kick off for this weekend long celebration will begin Thursday, July 10th with the Mason County Team Roping Event sponsored by Karen and Dennis Townsend. For more information, please call Dennis Townsend at 325-456-8635.
On Friday July 11th, the Mason Rodeo Association will host a 4-D barrel race beginning at 8:00 p.m. at the Ft. Mason Park Rodeo Arena. Books will open at 5:00 pm, exhibitions will run from 5:30 to 7:30 and the 8 and Under Class will begin at 8:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded to all participants in this class. Mason has some local talent who are not only cute as can be, but also pretty tough competitors. They are always fun to watch! The Open 4D Class will follow the little ones. This year, the Mason County Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce our new event the Texas Tune-up. The Texas Tune-up is a three-in-one music event that will be held at the Ft. Mason Park Dance Slab on Friday, July 11th beginning at 7:00 p.m. The show will begin with the 33rd Annual Country Showdown Talent Contest hosted by Lonestar 102.5.
Next, we hope to fill the dance floor with our opening act John Christopher Way & Barb Wire. Our headliner of the evening will be Mark David Manders. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or prior to the show at the Mason County Chamber of Commerce. General Admission Tickets will be $10.00 and VIP Tickets will be $40.00 (includes VIP section with amenities & beer). BYOB.
On Saturday, July 12th join us for our 1st Annual Stick Donkey Race. The race will be held at 9:30 a.m. on the south side of the square. Cowboys and Cowgirls ages 3 to 6 are eligible. Any stick donkey will do! Prizes will be given to the 1st place winner and to the most creative stick donkey.
Beginning at 9:45 a.m. and prior to the parade, the Mason County Chamber of Commerce will be holding our 14th Annual Great American Jackass Race. We are in search of brave jackass race participants. Please help us continue a Mason County tradition and sign up for this entertaining event. The first place prize will be $500 and prizes will also be given to 2nd place and “Best Dressed Jackass”.
Round-up Weekend will not be the same without finding the best “Jack the Mascot” in town! That’s right, there is not a deeper way to say “I love you, friend” than to nominate someone and have that person win! Watch your friend race around the Courthouse dressed in our historical jackass mascot costume. As always, the nominee with the largest monetary support wins!
Additional activities scheduled for Saturday, July 12th include the 50th Annual Round-up Parade beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the annual Arts & Crafts Festival held on the Courthouse lawn. This year’s festival will have loads of children’s activities, live music, great food, over 50 vendor booths and the ever so fun, Billy Bingo.
This year’s Queen’s Court Pageant will begin at 2:15 p.m. on the north side of the courthouse. The pageant will be hosted by Alpha Beta Psi. The crowning of the Queen’s Court will be held in conjunction with the rodeo beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the rodeo arena in Ft. Mason Park.
On Saturday evening, please join the Mason Rodeo Association for the Lester Meier Rodeo production beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Ft. Mason Park Rodeo Arena. The rodeo will kick off with the Grand Entry and posting of the colors, followed by the presentation and crowning of the Round-Up Queen’s Court and the 8 and Under Mason County Barrel race. (If you have a little one who is interested in participating in the barrel race, please call Amanda McMillan @ 347-2486.) The Lester Meier Rodeo Company is planning an entertaining evening of bull riding, calf roping, open team roping, County team roping, barrel racing, mutton bustin’, calf scramble, breakaway roping and a super clown act. Concessions will be provided during the rodeo by Michael and Jennifer Zavala. For more information on the rodeo, please call Tommy Bierschwale at 325-347-4190. Pre-sale tickets for the rodeo will be available at the Mason Bank and the Mason County Chamber of Commerce. Rodeo tickets will cost $10 at the gate and $8 pre-sale for spectators 13 and over. 12 and under can watch for free! Presale tickets will go on sale the week of June 30th.
Following the rodeo, there will be a dance at the Ft. Mason Park Dance Slab featuring opening act Case Hardin and headliner Cory Morrow. Case Hardin will kick off the dance at t 8:45 pm followed by our featured performer, Cory Morrow. Both artists will provide some great dancing and listening music for your enjoyment! The Mason Rodeo Association greatly appreciates Erna Frac for helping bring these artists to the 50th Round Up! Dance tickets will cost $20 at the gate and $17 pre-sale and will be available at the Mason Bank and the Mason County Chamber of Commerce. Presale tickets will go on sale the week of June 30th.
