Keep the Eckert Center Dry!!!!!

Dear Gerry,

In the last two months, Mason has had an outbreak of criminal activities. The ones that I know about are: teen gets drunk at party and shoots guest in leg, young men get drunk and go on crime spree, burglarizing residences and businesses, and local youths beaten bloody at memorial service at The Peanut Mill. Since these three events have the common denominator of liquor being involved, I am shocked and appalled that the city would even consider allowing liquor use at the Eckert Civic Center. Though an argument can be made that “most people drink responsibly,” the current reality in Mason suggests differently. I would suggest that Mason and the surrounding area already have enough venues that allow, or even encourage, drinking. Let the people that must have liquor at their fundraisings use the Community Center in the Park or the Peanut Mill - there are no neighbors to be disturbed at either location and there is plenty of room for drunken brawls in their parking lots.

Sincerely,

Tommy Newsom
