Betty Lou Andrews passed away quietly into the Lord’s arms on Sunday, July 13, 2014, with her loving husband at her side.

She was born on June 9, 1940, in Mason County, Mason, Texas, to Baze Cavaness and Grace Skurlock Cavaness, the first of four children. She grew up in Mason, and graduated from Mason High School in 1958. While in high school she worked at Dooley’s Variety Store, where her mother was manager. After graduation she married Amos William Kidd, who owned the local barbershop. She and Amos had two children, Ida and Andy. Amos died in 1986.

Betty relocated to Kerrville, where she met and married Kevin Andrews. While in Kerrville she worked eleven years at the Kerrville Bus Company, established the bookkeeping operation for four different organizations, and operated her own house-cleaning and ironing business. She also served as the secretary for Motley Hills Baptist Church.

Betty Lou, as she was affectionately called by her husband, Kevin, was blessed richly with a talent for handcrafts. Among those were quilting and crochet, which she learned from her grandparents. She was also accomplished in oil painting and embroidery. For many years she made the Christmas ornaments that she gave as favors as she hosted an annual Christmas gathering at her home. These precious gifts of her skilled hands have become lasting mementos for family and friends. Additionally, she crocheted and embroidered countless blankets, hats, booties, quilts and pillow cases for the Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Betty actively carried her love of music into various endeavors. She supported and encouraged youngsters of the Hill Country Youth Orchestra. She enjoyed singing in church choirs, worship services at Plaza on the River, with her husband, Kevin, and particularly with her ladies’ quartet, Grace Notes Four.

One of Betty Lou’s fun thrills was to ride behind Kevin on the motorcycle as they rode the beautiful Hill Country. She recently enjoyed one of those rides this past April.

An active member of Sunrise Baptist Church, loving matriarch and devoted wife, she recently reflected on the blest life the Lord has given her and Kevin. Her ever-glowing smile conveyed her gratitude.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Amos S. Kidd; great-granddaughters Ashley Culwell, and Chelsea Palacio; great-grandson C.J. Lombraña; and son-in-law Bill Koch.
