Night in Old Fredericksburg

Music, games and entertainment will be combined with two days of live pari-mutuel horse racing for the Night In Old Fredericksburg weekend on Saturday and Sunday, July 19-20, at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg.

Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the Night In Old Fredericksburg Race Meet will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 19-20, while the Night In Old Fredericksburg celebration will be held on Saturday, July 19, at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.

For the weekend, adult general admission for the races and daytime activities is $7, reserved seats are $10 per seat and box seats are $15.

Adult general admission after 6 p.m. is $10.

Admission is $3 for children six to 15 years and free for children five and under.

The Gillespie County Fair Grounds is located on Texas 16 South, approximately two miles from downtown Fredericksburg.

Horse Races

The second of four live pari-mutual horse racing meets at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds takes place on Saturday and Sunday, July 19-20.

Quarter horses and thoroughbreds will be returning to the Class III facility where the games open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m.

 Following the NIOF Race Meet, two more meets are on the schedule including the Gillespie County Race Meet on Aug. 9-10 and again on Aug. 23-24 as part of the 126th Gillespie County Fair (Aug. 21-24).


A variety of activities are planned for Saturday, July 19, beginning around 1 p.m. as part of Night In Old Fredericksburg at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.

A washer pitching tournament gets underway at 1 p.m. Registration opens at noon.

The music begins in the Exhibition Hall at 3 p.m. with the Off The Grid Band, followed by the Seven Dutchmen at 7 p.m.

Registration opens at 3 p.m. for the 42 domino tournament that is scheduled to start around 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Other contests and activities include beer keg rolling, a stein holding contest, Bavarian beer maid races, yodeling, chicken dance contest and Schuhplattler (Bavarian shoe slapping). A goat roping contest will get underway at 7:30 p.m.

There will also be a barbecue cook-off by the Lone Star Barbecue Society and a CASI Chili Cook-Off.

Performing on the outdoor pavilion from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. will be Jake Hooker and The Outlaws.

A variety of foods and drinks will be available throughout the weekend.
