The annual Mason County Historical Society meeting is Thursday, August14th, 7 p.m. in the Stribling Room at the Library. Speaker for the event is Larry Cissna of Sweeney, Texas, who has visited several times in Mason with his crew who do archaeological digs on civil war sites all over the United States.
Larry (center) with his son, Jake, and father-in-law, Oscar, began digging at Fort Mason last December. Since then his Dig Wars crew of five men have been exploring property around the fort, and have found several hundred artifacts---buttons, bullets, a ring, horse shoes, uniform insignia, etc. Most of these items have been cleaned and will be in presentation boxes for the meeting.
Visitors are always welcome at the annual gathering which will include a brief business meeting led by Chairman Charles Eckert. Brief reports of the society, museum and fort will be given, plus an election of several board members. New members are always welcome.
