Two days of live pari-mutuel horse racing returns to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10, as part of the 2014 summer season.
Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, Inc., the Gillespie County Race Meet weekend will also include three livestock shows taking place in the Show Barn at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.
For the races, the gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m. both days.
Admission to the grounds is $7 for adults, $3 for children six to 15 years of age and free for children five and under. Reserved seats are $10 and box seats are $15.

Highlighting the racing program on Saturday, Aug. 9, will be the 350-yard GCFA Maiden Futurity while on Sunday will be the running of the 330-yard GCFA 79 and Under Speed Index Futurity.
The weekend program also includes trial races for the 350-yard Gillespie County Fair Futurity that will be run during the 126th Gillespie County Fair.
Over in the Show Barn, the Meat Goat Futurity, sanctioned by the Junior Meat Goat Show Circuit, Inc., will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9. Showmanship starts at 9:15 a.m. followed by the show at 10 a.m.
Then, on Sunday, Aug. 10, the Gillespie County Race Day Classic Steer Show, sanctioned by Battle of the Cattle, starts at 9 a.m. and the judging in the Lamb Futurity starts at 10 a.m.
A variety of food and drink will be available throughout the weekend.
After the Aug. 9-10 Gillespie County Race Meet, the summer season will continue with the 126th Gillespie County Fair Aug. 21-24 and the final two days of live pari-mutuel horse racing on Aug. 23-24.
A variety of events are planned as part of the Gillespie County Fair including a carnival and midway, music and dancing, parade, queen’s contest, live pari-mutuel horse racing, agricultural and home products displays, livestock judging, commercial vendors and more.
Outdoor concerts on planned for Friday and Saturday nights. Performing on Friday night, Aug. 22, will be Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys. Then, on Saturday night, Aug. 23, Moe Bandy will be followed by Kyle Park.
The summer season at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds concludes with an evening of professional bull riding on Saturday, Sept. 13. Bull riding as part of the Fifth Annual Fredericksburg PBR starts at 7:30 p.m.
