Castell School Open House

The Castell Community Club will be hosting on Open House at the Castell School honoring John Harold and Dorothy Schuessler and Don and Dodie Vierus for their many years of dedication and service to the Castell School, Community Club and Castell Community. The Open House will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited.

John Harold and Dorothy Bauer Schuessler were both born and raised in Castell and both attended the Castell School from the 1st grade to the 10th grade which was the highest grade available. John went on to graduate from Mason High School and Dorothy graduated from Llano High. They later became sweethearts and were married in 1945. When the schools were consolidated in 1948 and the Castell School was deeded to the Castell Community Club, John and Dorothy were charter members in the formation of the organization. In 1975 John helped organize the Castell Volunteer Fire Department and he served as their Secretary/Treasurer for 25 years, and John and Dorothy always helped with the Annual BBQs. For many years Dorothy served as President of the Castell Community Club and has been dedicated to keeping everything operating and the doors of the Castell School open. John Harold and Dorothy have always stepped up and volunteered where needed and they have been an asset to the Community. Their years of commitment and service to the Castell School, Community Club and the Castell Community are outstanding and their many contributions are greatly appreciated.

Don Vierus was also born and raised in Castell and attended the Castell School starting in the 1st grade and went through the 6th grade before the school closed in 1948, at which time he attended school in Llano. In 1957 Don married Dora Mae Gamel from Mason and they made their home in Castell. The newlyweds began attending the Castell School volleyball games and were soon active members of the organization and Community. Don served as President of the Community Club for many years and has always helped with the maintenance of the building and grounds. Dodie served as Secretary/Treasurer and later Vice President of the Community Club, and for the longest she served as Chairman of the Annual Castell VFD BBQ Food Committee. Don served on the Castell Volunteer Fire Department and has always helped with the Annual Castell VFD BBQ as well as other volunteer committees in the Community. Don and Dodie have given many years of dedication and service to the Castell School, Community Club and Castell Community and they are greatly appreciated for their many contributions.
