It's Time To Shape Up!

At 8:00 a.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014, the Mason Lions Club's 8th Annual Gem of the Hill Country 5 & 10 K Run/Walk will take place. Starting on the south side of the Mason County courthouse next to the old jail, participants will wind through the neighborhoods and onto a perimeter road that passes historic Fort Mason, offering one of the most beautiful scenic views in the hill country.

I've said more or less the same thing over the past seven years and still can't think of a better way of describing the race. Those of you who have participated will agree, I'm sure.

A couple years back, the Lions Club added $100 prize money to the winning participant who breaks the male or female record in the 5 and 10K race. Here are the record times:

5K - Male: 19:17

5K - Female: 22:54

10K - Male: 37:21

10K - Female: 44:08

The Lions Club is proud of their race and well they should be. Proceeds help many of Mason's non-profit organizations and the race is drawing racers, runners and walkers from towns throughout the hill country and beyond, not to mention the ever increasing attendance of fitness-minded Mason folk.

So...., come on out! Participate, volunteer or just hang out. The Lions club's Hill Country 5 & 10K Run/Walk promotes health, good causes and, it promotes Mason. What more can you ask for in an event?

After the race and awards, drop by the courthouse square where the Fall Festival Community of Churches will offer assorted foods. Check out our stores surrounding the square afterwards - lots of interesting stuff including eateries, a museum and antiques. In other words, stick around! It's a pretty neat little town!
