The Gillespie County Fair arrives August 21-24, 2014, at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg, Texas.
This year’s celebration includes four big days of music, carnival, livestock shows, horse races, and queen pageant, along with food and drink, contests, and other festivities.
The show kicks off Thursday with Moore’s Greater Shows Carnival. Families can earn a discount on ride wristbands by bringing a donation of two canned items. That evening is the Country Showdown, sponsored by KNAF 105.7 “The Deuce” and featuring entertainers competing to advance to the national competition. Admission on Thursday is free.
Friday starts with the 10 a.m. parade down Main Street. The action moves back to the Fair Grounds with a 42 tournament in the afternoon. Friday night includes mutton bustin’, Queen’s Contest, and a dance to Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys.
On Saturday, there will be a washer pitching contest in the afternoon, mutton bustin’ and a Saturday night dance with Moe Bandy followed by Kyle Park.
Saturday and Sunday will be the final days of the live pari-mutuel horse racing season at the Class 3 track. Racing begins at 1:00 p.m. All weekend long visitors can enjoy agricultural exhibits and fair memorabilia.
