Tim Walker Reins as Champion
Wednesday, August 13, 2014 • Posted August 13, 2014

For the second year in a row, Tim Walker walked away last Sunday with the honors as Comanche Creek club champion. Comanche Creek held its 25th annual Club Championship on August 2 and 3. Bud Menchaca had the stage set in grand golf fashion and what a championship it turned out to be.

After the first round of play, new member, Hunter Wenzel led the tournament shooting a fine round of 66. (-6 under par) Joe David Langehennig -3 and Tim Walker -1. Tim open his second round of play with an eagle and Hunter a birdie. From this point on Joe David and I were just spectators watching some of the greatest golf played in our home town in a long time.

By the end of the day on Sunday, Tim posted a 63, nine under par, -10 for the two days. Hunter shot 70, two under par for second place, -8 for the two days. Joe David and I are not talking about our rounds but we were witness to some mighty fine golf. What a treat!

In the First flight, Mike Innis put together a mighty fine round for himself on Sunday shooting an even par round of 72. This help move Mike from third place after Saturdays round to First Place! Zac Langehennig placed second and James Toeppich finished third.

Danny Hyde placed First in the Second flight, Weldon Tucker second and Ron Birk captured the third place honors. Also playing in the second flight were Marshal Frazier and Kelly Schmidt. By the way, Kelly shot his age!!! If you are not a golfer, that is a big deal. Not too many people get to fall in to that category.

Willie Alba and Darrell Dayton tied for First place honors in the Third flight. Josh James, Jason McMillan and Cesar Balderas tied for Third place. I would like to welcome to our golfing family Willie, Darrell, Josh, Cesar and Ray Duarte.

The ladies club championship will be held later in October. But competing with the men were Sheila Innis who carded a two day total of 159, Patsy Brandenberger 171 and Minnie Schmidt 207.

Our next tournament will be the Puncher Club Scramble held on Saturday, August 16. There will be a morning group teeing off at 8:30, for those who want to beat the heat, and the others will tee off at 1:30. This year, I will be providing meal tickets which will be included in your $50 entry fee. The meal may be picked up at the Puncher Dome where our Mighty Puncher football team will be hosting Hamilton in their season opener scrimmage. The scrimmage will start at 10:00. You may pick up your meal ticket at the golf shop. You may sign up as an ABCD team or as an individual. Hope to see you there!!!
