Pontotoc Community Hosts Ice Cream Social

The Pontotoc Community hosted an Ice Cream Social on August 19th honoring their Postmaster, Carma Halfmann, who is retiring at the end of August 2014. She will be the last Postmaster of Pontotoc, TX.

According to the book “Bluebonnets and Rattlesnakes” by H.C. Byler, Jr. the former Postmaster roster, dating back to 1880, includes: Benjamin J. Willis 1880; John A. Barrett 1883; Post Office discontinued December 12, 1883; Post Office re-established February 18, 1884; James C. Clark, February 1884; Harriett Conner, October 1884; Stephen R. Fickling 1885; Julia A. Fickling 1888; Henry Samuels; Stephen R. Fickling, Jr 1914; Alma McLeod Fickling; Harriet Williamson Conner; Mary Cavanagh 1947; Betty Jean Waldon 1966; Carma Halfmann 1999.

Carma said “I have enjoyed being the Postmaster of such a warm and caring community. The people here have played a large part in my ‘Book of Life’ for years and I hope to incorporate these characters into the next chapter of my life: RETIREMENT!!”
