We have some beautiful sunshine but no rain. Pray for rain and warm weather.
There are two, or I should write, three birthday celebrations this week: Judy Kingston celebrates on the 6th and then, Turner and Emma, grand children of Roger and Tyra Jordan and children of Matt and Cindy Ashby, both celebrate on February 10th. They both came at about the same time and are called “the twins”. They will be three years old and are great kids. Have a great birthday. Also, remember Leonard and Barbara Foster’s 33rd anniversary on February 12th. Reports indicate that they are doing great. May God continue to bless them.
The Teen Challenge Men’s Choir will be a part of the service on Sunday, February 8th. A Mexican Pile On lunch will be provided after church. Come and support this great musical group that has a great message.
Keep Pearl Leifeste in your prayers as she recovers after eye surgery on Tuesday. Also pray for healing for Clara McInnis’ niece, Haley. Also prays were requested by Carolyn Vater for the Scott family.
Reverend Krause used the scripture from Acts 8:9-25 for inspiration for his sermon titled “The Gift That Can’t Be Bought.” Just like Stephen, Philip was not one of the original apostles. But they did receive the power of God by faith and belief. The signs and wonders of Philip had inspired them. The word in Jeremiah 29:13 states that “Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me and find Me when you search for Me with all of your heart.” When you make the choice to believe and are open to the Holy Spirit, you will receive the Holy Spirit. Your life will be changed.
Simon, through sorcery, appeared to have the power of God. But Simon thought that he could buy the power of the Holy Spirit. But he could only receive the Holy Spirit by faith.
The only way to fully receive the Holy Spirit is to, first, hear the Word spoken by the Holy Spirit. Next, you must choose to believe. This is to have faith in Jesus Christ. Then, choose to ask for His forgiveness. This is repentance. Then, you must accept the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hand, one at a time, and receive His power. And the fifth step to becoming a Christian is to share you beliefs with others. This is discipleship. Let the Holy Spirit word through you to help others.
It is up to you to accept the Holy Spirit. Believe and then receive the gift of everlasting life, the gift that cannot be bought. Then be alert to those who need God’s word and give them the precious gift that cannot be bought.
Read the words of Philip to the eunuch in Acts 8:37: “If you believe with all your heart, if you have a conviction, full of joyful trust, that Jesus is the Messiah and accept Him as the Author of your salvation in the kingdom of God. giving Him your obedience, then you may (be baptized). And he (the eunuch) replied, I do believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he was baptised.
