Free, Weekly Injury Evaluations for Student Athletes
Wednesday, September 3, 2014 • Posted September 3, 2014

Hill Country Memorial, orthopedic surgeons and rehab specialists are teaming up to offer free orthopedic and physical therapy evaluations to middle and high school athletes on Saturdays beginning September 6 and continuing through November 8.

Sports Injury Clinics are held each Saturday in Fredericksburg at Hill Country Memorial, 1020 S. State Hwy. 16, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.

“Most importantly, we want to keep young people healthy and active,” said Dustin Embrey, Director of Imaging at HCM. “These Sports Injury Clinics allow us to treat injuries quickly and get kids back on their feet.”

Volunteers include physicians and staff from the HCM Imaging Department, HCM Rehab Clinic, HCM Medical Group and Texas Hill Country Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine, PA.

“Injuries don’t have to wait for Monday morning,” said Clay Holland, Director of the HCM Rehab Clinic. “Sports Injury Clinics allow for almost immediate access to orthopedic specialists so that injured athletes can get the care that they need and get back in the game as soon as possible.”

Organizers emphasize that there is no need for athletes to “jog it off” if they have been injured. After an evaluation, Sports Injury Clinic volunteers provide the athletes with instructions for their team trainers and coaches to promote proper healing and avoid further injury.

The evaluations are free, but if an injury requires imaging, splinting or casting, such expenses are the responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian.

Evaluations are first-come, first-served, and no appointments are necessary.

A parent or legal guardian must accompany student athletes.

Please bring insurance information and enter through the HCM admissions entrance.

For more information, call HCM at 830-997-4353 and ask for the Imaging Department.

Clinics are sponsored by Hill Country Memorial in association with Joseph Cohn, MD, Steven Hoerster, MD, Daniel Robertson, MD, Charles Romanick, MD, and Kristina Crawford, PA-C. Past clinics have evaluated students from Blanco, Boerne, Burnet, Comfort, Fredericksburg, Harper, Ingram, Johnson City, Junction, Kerrville, Llano, Mason, Marble Falls, Menard, San Saba and Stonewall.
