To all dog lovers and owners of dogs
I’ve addressed this letter as such because owning a dog does not make you a lover of dogs or someone who cares for them or should even own one - It does make you reponsible for them. Our community has a big problem with owners of dogs that do not secure their animals properly or care for them. There is a leash law within the city limits that requires all dogs be leashed when out and about whether the animal is well trained or not. In most states, allowing a dog to run at large is unlawful and the owner, guilty of a misdemeanor and fined. Owners of these dogs that get out of their yards and run loose know who they are, and are responsible for the actions of their dogs, like it or not. They need to take appropriate action.
The City has a problem with following through to insure that all these animals are not running around our streets. The law must be enforced.
The other day on one of my daily walks I was attacked and injured by two dogs. I unlike some kept my cool and tried to control the situation. I was still bit by this every angry dog. If I had been some one afraid of dogs it could have been a lot worst. The dog, a pit bull, did what it does. I don’t blame the dog as much as I do the owners. They should have properly secured their pet.
To the owners of these animals, try being responsible for your pet before a child or person is maimed or killed.
To those responsible for enforcement, merely “writing up” these errant owners is not enough.
They should be cited, and fined.
